Statistics

Every Monday and Friday we have been doing Statistics for maths. We have learnt how to use Excel and make bar graphs, pie graphs and line graphs.

We created a graph on 4CD’s most popular favourite colour in Excel learning about scales and how to label axis.

We have been doing an investigation of our choice including 30 girls. We chose a subject to investigate about for example 'Year 3&4 girls most popular family car colour'. We first went round all the girls in Yr3 and Yr4 and made a tally/frequency chart. Over the next few days we will make four graphs on Excel displaying the information we gathered.

Creative Writing

On Tuesday in the first period we have been going to creative writing run by Karen Davidson. this includes a few year 4s (us) a few year 5s and a few year 6s. We have been writing poems and stories entering our bits of work into competitions some of us have even been published.

Here are three pieces of writing

Train
its voice speaks to the rails,
it speaks its tune to all that listens,
its wings shoot through cities that soon grows to the past,
its song is the air,
as it travels round and round,
doing its duties,
as passengers babble,
it continues,
day and night
the train.
Xanthe Mcelroy

Ocean
I step down the sand,
as the waves lap in,
I take another step,
the freezing water trickles
around my feet,
It looks as though
it has been painted by the shining sun.
The risk has been taken. Sylvie King

Gallipolli

it is world war I,
men fighting against their word,
for those who died may shine upon us,
for the woman who heard,

those firing guns.
the excited men became glum,
as they noticed the disappearing sun,

those crosses that now stand tall,
will guard the graves of men,
who sacrificed their lives for us.

Hieroglyphics

This term our Unit of Inquiry is Write It Down. We have been learning about communication.

This week, we have been learning about hieroglyphics.
We have learnt that there is a rock with three languages in Egypt.
We have also learnt how to solve riddles in hieroglyphics, as well as our names, some sentences and our   teachers’ names.
Aria bought in some Egypt writing and the first sentence we solved, was Simon!
We also learnt that in Egypt they worshiped cats!
In Egypt they write from right to left, and it was pretty special to write because it was so hard.
They also have a symbol that they used to think was protecting them! We are learning a lot about hieroglyphics and hope to learn even more! :)

The Colourful World

The colourful world

The colourful world covers sea/land and other marvellous things
That shines blue like the sky,
White is white, black is bold, red is the colour of fire,
Rainbows are beautiful and pretty .
SPARKLE IS A DAZZLE COLOUR.

Colour Poems

Today on Friday the 8th we each got a poem about pink and red colours. Once we illustrated it we wrote our own poems here are three of mine...

Green
green is fresh fresh as nature
it cools down red and spices up white
it fills a picture
nothing is perfect without green
green

Yellow
yellow reminds me of marshmallows
and picnics of yellow
full of mellow
it brightens me up when my mellow side is down
yellow is hot
it trickles down my face
yellow yellow sweet sweet yellow

Rainbow
it can be three different feelings
all put together
ROYGIBIV
is what it is called
all colours together
brighter than bright
