CLOUDS Poem

CLOUDS
White cream puffs floating through the air ,
Moving when I change my gaze,
They watch over me like tiny white lords,
Clouds in the light blue sky.

Learning Chess

             CHESS

On Thursday the 19th, 4CD learnt some new things about chess.
We learnt how to set up a chessboard and how many spaces the pieces can go and where they can move.
Lily, Ellen, and Elise came in to help us understand chess, we tried a game of chess and we all thought it went really well.

Comments:
Lotte: I thought it was cool how pieces moved.
Leilah: I liked it because it was fun.
Skye: I liked chess because it’s a new experience.
Mrs Cowden: I thought 4CD listened really well.

Sam Bailey the Inspiring Man

Sam Bailey has a very interesting life story about his passion. He told us about what it is like being paralised and being in a wheelchair for the rest of your life. He made a book with his story and shared about how he wanted to be a farmer just like his Dad but ending up in a wheelchair and being paralysed from his chest down to his feet. Evelyn King
Sam Bailey came to school to talk to us about his life in a wheelchair. The best way that I would describe what he was saying is “you don’t need wings to fly". He was very confident. I think that he is right. Even if you have something wrong you can still live your dream. Even if you have something wrong with you doesn’t mean you need to give up.

Introducing Leilah

MakerSpace

During MakerSpace we have been weaving. We first did a rotation the 3 rotations were: weaving fish, weaving with straws or weaving with plates.
The first rotation I did was the plates we first made strings on the plate to weave around weaving is going over, under, over, under and so on until you are happy with your work.
The second rotation was weaving with straws you thread wool into the straws then get another piece of wool and weave over, under, over, under, over until you can not continue you then pull it up and continue.

Years 3&4 Fish n Chip night

On Friday evening the Years 3&4 Team and their families met at Selwyn House and enjoyed their favourite take-aways.

It was a fun evening bringing our team together for a social event and we had a brilliant turn out.

Friday was Coco Brady's birthday and we all sung to her. Coco shared her birthday cake with everyone.

It was a lovely hot evening and then the rain drops started. Luckily, it didn't rain for long.

Challenge and Creativity Day

Challenge and Creativity Day is a Selwyn House tradition for our Year 3 & 4 Team. It takes place once a term, which enables our school community to share their passions and talents with us. The girls get to choose their workshop.

We had the five exciting workshops, Chinese Culture Experience, Gingerbread Making, Scrapbooking, Stop Animation and Easter Card Making.

The gingerbread biscuits smelt so good, everybody wanted one!

World Read Aloud Day

Today is World Read Aloud Day. Our whole school (including teachers) dressed up as their favourite book character and shared a story with their buddy.

It was amazing seeing the variety of costumes, everyone had big smiles on their faces as they saw each other dressed up.

We think that Selwyn House was the first school in the entire world to celebrate World Read Aloud Day and we think that is amazing!

World Read Aloud Day helps us to think about other children around the world that don't get the same opportunities as us.

I enjoyed getting dressed up because it is not something we usually do and it was fun making a costume for my character, Clarice Bean! Xanthe McElroy

Reading with the buddies was awesome...it is fun being able to read with someone who is not your own age! Evelyn King

I loved how Emily and Rebecca went as Thing 1 and Thing2...that was epic!

Willowbank Visit - Tuning In

On Monday 2 March the Years 3&4 team visited Willowbank Wildlife Reserve for our new Unit of Inquiry, He Tangata.

As part of our new Unit of Inquiry we are gaining an understanding of Māori culture. The members of the Ko Tane group performed some songs and gave us a Kapahaka performance. We learnt some new Māori words such as Kapai and Kiaora.

We got to experience the poi and ti rakau sticks, then we learnt a performance for each other. It was challenging trying to remember all of the songs.

We were lucky to see the different animals and we even got to feed some!
